Entry Requirements for TEAM

TEAM is looking for high calibre trainee teachers with the skills and commitment to become outstanding teachers and future leaders in the teaching profession.

Primary school requirements: 

  • 2:2 degree, or above, in a subject specialism relevant to the School Direct programme that you are applying for.
  • GCSE English, Mathematics and Science (or equivalent) at Grade C or above.
  • It is a national requirement that applicants successfully complete the Professional Skills Test in English and Mathematics. The skills tests must be completed within six weeks of a provisional offer being made.
  • A minimum of 10 days School Experience (this may be gained after application).

Primary with Maths

This programme is designed to prepare you for a career as an innovative and creative primary teacher of the 5-11 age range, trained by highly experienced academic staff and primary teachers. Choosing a specialism in Mathematics will mean that you spend up to 50% of your programme focusing on the teaching of Mathematics at Primary level, including through a specific module in the teaching of Mathematics and through enhanced opportunities both within and across schools. An emphasis will be on developing innovative, practical and engaging ways to develop the teaching of Mathematics in primary schools. You will be expected to review your own understanding of Mathematics and engage critically with research into children's learning of mathematics

  • 2:2degree or above
  • GCSE English, Mathematics and Science (or equivalent) at Grade C or above.
  • It is a national requirement that applicants successfully complete the Professional Skills Test in English and Mathematics. The skills tests must be completed within six weeks of a provisional offer being made.
  • A minimum of 10 days School Experience (this may be gained after application).
  • The Primary with Maths programme has more Maths elements than the general Primary Programme, you still work across two key stages.
  • You must have a passion for Maths and be able to portray this at interview.  A Maths degree is not required, neither is an A Level in Maths BUT if you wish to apply for a bursary then an A Level at B Grade or above in Maths is required.

Secondary school requirements:

  • 2:2 degree, or above, in a subject specialism relevant to the School Direct programme that you are applying for.
  • A third class degree is now accepted in Computer Science, Maths and Physics (providing candidates have a B grade or above at A level).
  • GCSE English and Mathematics (or equivalent) at Grade C or above. 
  • It is a national requirement that applicants successfully complete the Professional Skills Test in English and Mathematics. The skills tests must be completed within six weeks of a provisional offer being made.
  • A minimum of 10 days School Experience (this may be gained after application)

(Salaried entry requirements necessitate approximately three years industry/work experience.
This may be in any area of work it doesn’t have to be within the education sector.)

Subject Knowledge Enhancement Courses are available at no cost for those wishing to teach Languages, Chemistry, Physics and Computing should your degree not have the required 50% content required.

Person specification/experience
You must be able to meet the following criteria:

  • An awareness of the way in which your subject can influence the whole school curriculum.
  • Strong ICT skills and interest in using ICT as a learning tool for creative development.
  • An awareness and knowledge of the issues surrounding the safeguarding of children.
