Interested in becoming an SLE?

Are you an outstanding middle or senior leader with at least two years’ experience? Have a successful track record of work effectively within their own school and/or across a group of schools? Are you able to give evidence of successfully using coaching and or facilitation skills to bring about sustainable improvements?

This information is correct at time of posting but is presently under review

The Heath Teaching School – Learning Teaching and Leadership Alliance is looking to recruit both Primary and Secondary phase SLEs in the next round of recruitment. An SLE is a middle or senior leader in a position below the head teacher with a particular area of expertise, who will support middle or senior leaders in other schools. Deployment is based on need and demand. Deployment types will vary. There are many benefits for SLEs and their schools: Opportunities to work independently, to be creative and try out new ideas. Development of coaching and facilitation skills Opportunity to network with peers Experience of different school environments The chance to learn from ideas and approaches used in other schools Development of skills and knowledge that can benefit their own school The knowledge that they are helping others to improve and having a positive impact on outcomes for children

The Heath LTLA currently has 16 SLEs who are actively deployed with the LTLA and we have 4 new SLES in Geography, Maths (Secondary), Maths ( Primary), SEN,  who are training shortly and will be deployable from 24th October 2014.

We are looking to recruit more SLEs in the following subjects:

  • English/ Literacy: – KS 1, KS2, KS3 , KS4
  • Mathematics/Numeracy: – KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4
  • Early Years
  • RE

The application process:

If you are interested, study the eligibility criteria and if you decide to pursue an application, it is vital that you:

  • Talk with your headteacher
  • Seek your headteacher’s agreement to become your referee

Fill in part 1 of the applications below. Part 2 must be completed by your headteacher, as a referee, and they then return the form to Kate Allerston

Your head teacher will need sufficient time to complete this reference and return it by the deadline of 23rd October 2014.

Supporting you with your application: Talk to any of your colleagues who have been involved in school to school work.  Discuss with them the nature and opportunities of this partnership working. In addition, take the opportunity to discuss your plans with your line manager, within the broader picture of you career progression and professional development.

If you have any further specific questions related to becoming an SLE and the application process, contact Steve Byrne, SLE director  or Kate Allerston

All applications must be submitted to the Teaching School Development Officer/ SLE Coordinator Kate Allerston  – click here for application details and see attached SLE application form and toolkit for your information and use.
